About this event

In his new book "Regenesis: Feeding the World Without Devouring the Planet," Monbiot presents a vision for a new future for food and humanity.

Agriculture is responsible for a quarter of global carbon emissions. Monbiot tells us what we can do to transform food systems for our own health and the health of the planet. According to Bill McKibben, “This remarkable book, staring curiously down at the soil beneath our feet, points us convincingly in one of the directions we must travel. I learned something on every page.”

In our upcoming Action Party, Monbiot will summarize for us what we can do to transform food systems for our own health and the health of the planet.

We'll have a bunch of actions queued up in the Climate Action Now app to help all of us lower the carbon footprint of our food systems.

About Our Featured Guest

George Monbiot is an author, Guardian columnist and environmental activist. His best-selling books include Feral: Rewilding the land, sea and human life, Heat: how to stop the planet burning, and Out of the Wreckage: a new politics for an age of crisis. George cowrote the concept album Breaking the Spell of Loneliness with musician Ewan McLennan, and has made a number of viral videos. One of them, adapted from his 2013 TED Talk, How Wolves Change Rivers, has been viewed on YouTube over 40m times. Another, on Natural Climate Solutions, that he co-presented with Greta Thunberg, has been watched over 60m times. George’s latest book, Regenesis: Feeding the World without Devouring the Planet, was published in May 2022.

About Our Moderator

Marianne Krasny, Ph.D., is the Director of Food Policy for Climate Action Now. She is a professor in Natural Resources and the Environment at Cornell University where she directs the Civic Ecology Lab. Her work with Climate Action Now focuses on reauthorization of the Farm Bill, which is slated for $648 billion in funding over the next five years. Her latest book, In This Together: Connecting with your Community to Combat the Climate Crisis, will be out in March 2023.

About Our Action Parties

An Action Party is an online event that packs valuable information and concrete action into a 60-minute venue.

Each Action Party has an environment-related topic and a featured guest who is an expert in that topic. We begin with a 20-minute presentation by the featured guest, followed by 20 minutes of Q&A, and then 20 minutes of optional action-taking with the Climate Action Now app. The actions have been prepared in advance to help participants take the most impactful action in the shortest period of time. During the action segment, the party's moderator sets a goal for the number of actions to be taken and shows participants their progress towards that goal in real-time with an online, automated goal tracker. Participants can socialize during the action segment.

Action parties are free and open to all who seek a more just and sustainable world, but we welcome donations to help us continue our mission of creating a just and liveable planet for all.
