Climakaze Miami Eco-Arts Bike-Dance-Swim Excursion
Event Information
Description
Co-sponsored by Siren Arts and FUNDarte as part of Climakaze Miami 2018 (www.climakazemiami.org), this unique eco-arts excursion immerses participants in some of Miami Beach’s best assets: Bike riding, dancing and ocean swimming!
We begin our bike journey in front of the at the Citi Bike station #169 right across from Macy's on Meridian Ave. (right near Lincoln Rd.), then head south, and circle back north to Mid Beach where we host a group dance on the beach with live drumming. Following the dance, a swim leader plunges the group into an ocean swim. This highly participative journey includes information about the local arts scene, climate change issues, and sparks the imagination about creative environmental stewardship.
Beach dance lead by dancer, choreographer and dance educator Michelle Grant Murray. Total excursion time about 2 hours with approximately eight miles of bike riding. Refreshments included. For visitors without bicycles, rental bikes available.
Participants that take this excursion see parks full of Florida flora, move through urban spaces sustainably on bike paths, become connected to community and the land through an exhilarating dance and swim sessions that recalibrate the body and soul.
As arts educators, we are careful to provide access and enjoyable participation for all. You don’t need to be a dancer, pro-cyclist or competitive swimmer to join our “triathlon”. Just bring an open mind, sunscreen, bathing suit and a hat!
This event is free to participants, but registration through Eventbrite is required. Rental bikes provided only to confirmed registrants. Refreshments provided at beach stop. Please bring hat, bathing suit, sunscreen and reusable water bottle to hydrate only the journey!
This eco-arts adventure is supported by FUNDarte, the City of Miami Beach and the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs' Community Grants program.
