Event description
Lunch and conversation with Virginia Oliveros (Tulane University) about clientelism and the political behavior of slum dwellers.

About this Event

Around one billion people, or an eighth of the global population, live in slums. Yet we know very little about the political behavior of these people, as surveys in developing countries very often exclude them (for logistical, budgetary, or security reasons). Virginia Oliveros (Tulane University) will visit UChicago on February 17, 2020 to discuss a new analysis that compares slum dwellers to equally poor individuals that live outside of slums. She will discuss clientelism and the political behavior of the poorest and most vulnerable segment of the global population.
