Description

The Texas Bible Chair Foundation is dedicated to providing excellent opportunities for education in the Christian Faith, and the Clergy Leadership Institute is designed to give insightful continuing education to clergy, both ordained and commissioned. Our workshops are open to all.

Clergy Leadership Institute

Understanding of Heritage

This Clergy Leadership Institute will be led by Rev. Dr. D. Newell Williams, president of Brite Divinity School, and will include:

Church History: A survey of early church history through the reformation and the developments of modern Christianity.

Ethos and History of the Disciples of Christ: A survey of the history, structure, practices, and ethos of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with emphasis on the Stone-Campbell Movement.

In preparation for the event, Rev. Dr. Williams would like all participants to read The Christian World: A Global History by Martin E. Marty and Joined in Discipleship: the Shaping of Contemporary Disciples Identity by Mark G. Toulouse.

9:30 am - 9:45 am Welcome and Worship

10:00 am - 12:00 pm Church History

12:00 pm - 12:45 pm LUNCH (Provided with Registration)

12:45 pm - 3:00 pm Ethos and History of the Disciples of Christ

3:00 pm - 3:30 pm Closing Worship with Communion

About our Instructor:

The Rev. Dr. D. Newell Williams, president of Brite Divinity School, is a distinguished scholar and world-known authority on the Stone-Campbell Movement. He co-edited two books with Douglas A. Foster and Paul M. Blowers, The Stone-Campbell Movement: A Global History and The Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement. He is the author of Barton Stone: A Spiritual Biography. He holds a Ph.D. (1979) and M.A. (1975) from Vanderbilt University and a B.A. from University of Tulsa (1971).
