Theology

Our workshop on Theology will be led by Rev. Dr. Charles Reese and will cover these areas:

What is Theology? A brief survey on theology, including a theological and biblical foundation on the study of the divine. A comparative look at the various theological traditions—Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal, with emphasis on the theological principles of the Christian Church (Disciple of Christ).

Liberation Theology from the African American perspective: A brief history of the roots of Liberation Theology and how this informed the African American church and theology.

In preparation for the event, Rev. Dr. Reese would like all participants to read The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Although not required, it would be helpful to read A Black Theology of Liberation by Rev. James Cone and Dr. Reese's own book Renegades: When Rebellious Leadership Wields Toxic Power in the Body of Christ.
