he Texas Bible Chair Foundation is dedicated to providing excellent opportunities for education in the Christian Faith, and the Clergy Leadership Institute is designed to give insightful continuing education to clergy, both ordained and commissioned. Our workshops are open to all.

Spiritual Development

Our workshop on Spiritual Development will be led by Rev. Dr. Timothy Robinson, Professor of Spiritual Resources and Disciplines at Brite Divinity School, and will cover these areas:

What is Christian Spirituality? Foundational Issues

Considers foundational issues in Christian spirituality: definitions of spirituality and spiritual formation, how contexts shape spirituality, the structures of faith development, the role of Scripture in spiritual formation, and the relationship between spirituality and social transformation.

Practicing the Spiritual Life

A look at a variety of specific spiritual practices and ways in which spiritual formation occurs in faith communities.

In preparation for the class, Rev. Dr. Robinson would like all participants to read Soul Feast by Marjorie Thompson, which can be found at Amazon.com (click here for link).

10:00 am - 12:00 pm What is Christian Spirituality? Foundational Issues

12:00 pm - 12:45 pm LUNCH (Provided with Registration)

12:45 pm - 3:00 pm Practicing the Spiritual Life

3:00 pm - 3:30 pm Closing Worship with Communion

About our Instructor:

Rev. Dr. Timothy Robinson is the Alberta and Harold Lunger Associate Professor of Spiritual Resources and Disciplines at Brite Divinity School, where he also serves as director of the Doctor of Ministry program. ​An ordained clergyperson in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he has served congregations in Kentucky, Northern California, Kansas City, and Virginia. His research, teaching, and pastoral interests include the history of Christian spirituality, spiritual direction, eco-theologies, and the relationship between theology and science & technology.
