AN ADVANCED COURSE

FOR THE PROFFESIONAL DOG TRAINER & COMPETITIVE HANDLER

In 2002 I produced the DVD series Obedience Without Conflict  in cooperation with Canine Training Systems. With these DVD's I explained the basics of my training system at the time. I introduced the use of Signals (markers), The Game (a highly interactive approach to training ), The use of Negative Punishment and detailed specific training techniques to accomplish World Class Obedience with your dog. Since then my concepts and techniques have been accepted and used among the best dog trainers in the world, as well as many Dog Training Schools worldwide. I have received many "thank you" emails from National and World Champions alike, who believe that I have contributed to their accomplishments! check them out here  But now 10 years later if you still have the desire to stay ahead of the competition, and learn something radically different - it is time to present you with the most up to date concepts and techniques  of my training system:

Clear Communication - Training Without Conflict 2013!

Ideas that go far beyond the typical 4 quadrants of Positive Reinforcement, Negative Reinforcement, Positive Punishment and Negative Punishment. Therefore to truly benefit from this course you must have at least basic knowledge of Classical and Operant Conditioning theories! I will not have time to explain the basics, then naturally You will not understand the ideas and most likely will fall asleep during class.

If at some point in time you feel you have learned something invaluable from my system, I strongly recommend this course to you!

The advanced theory of "The Game

  • Motivation -Understanding the Objectives - "The Game" is not about making flashy moves that create misses, and presenting opportunities for the dog to bite so you can swing him up and down , left and right and then command him to Out! This kind of interactive play has a very Important Objective. I did not developed the technique to simply reward faster Sits and Downs, but to create and maintain the perfect balance between Respecting Authority and Maintaining Attitude ...
  •  Motivation - Active engagement is necessary for learning - "The game" when done correctly is Powerful training, which is fundamental for learning to take place. Learning do not seem to occur when learning experiences are not active. How to create Active Engagement ...
  • Motivation - All learning has an emotional base - Motivation in the brain is driven by emotion. Dogs are motivated to engage in situations which are emotionally positive, and avoid those which are emotionally negative. I will show you how to design learning sessions that tap into the emotions ...
  • Motivation - Focused attention is fundamental to acquiring new knowledge - sustained focus ( I am no referring to the command "watch" here) is largely an unconscious process but essential for learning and problem solving. How to avoid the clutter of conflicting messages in your training.

Advanced View on Positive Reinforcement (PR) vs Negative Reinforcement (NR).

  • Definitions, Understanding and Application
  • Which one is better?
  • How to choose which one to use in particular moment?
  • How to simultaneously use PR and NR and why?

Advanced View on Positive Punishment (PP) vs Negative Punishment (NP)

  • Definitions, Understanding and Application
  • Which one is better?
  • How to choose which one to use in particular moment?
  • How to simultaneously use PR and NR and why?

The majority of this course consists of lecture/theory but there will be some hands on and demonstrations when appropriate. Feel free to bring a dog along, but remember that this is NOT a workshop but a presentation. Certificate of attendance will be awarded.

If you intend to take any of the other courses I will offer this Fall/Winter for example "The Bad Side of Dog Training" " The Competitive Heeling" or the "Electric Collar Certification Class" you would not want to skip this presentation.

There are few hotels to stay at, here is one suggestion : HOTEL information
