Clay Day: Pinch Pots & Slab Building
Sat, May 20, 2017, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM BST
Escape the world and have a fabulous day with clay. Learn two different techniques, pinch pots and slab building...
Firstly... go back in time and learn the ancient art of pinch pots. Once you have mastered the technique creating a variety of bowls, you will expand the process and turn your pinch pots into lush contemporary fruits.
Secondly, you will learn how to roll out clay slabs, using them to build at least one vessel such as a vase, box or mug which can be adorned with additions of clay to create your very own interesting designs.
Before the workshop ends, you will add your own colourful slips and underglaze to finish off all your unique pieces.
Your completed work will be brought back to Boo! Studio in Leeds where it will be carefully dried out before being bisque fired. I shall then add a clear glaze before the final glaze firing. I will let you know when it is ready to collect from Sunny Bank Mills, usually 2-3 weeks after the course ends.
This is a one-off workshop aimed at those who don’t have the time to commit to a course but who wish to take some time out for themselves. Step away from the day-to-day and dip your toe into the wonderful world of clay and have the satisfaction of creating unique pieces of ceramic art in a relaxed and fun environment. Come on your own or with a group of friends and do something a little bit different and creative.
These courses are ideal for the complete beginner, those with little experience or for just anyone who wishes to indulge in a day of clay. Suitable for Adults (16+)
Tools, all materials: clay, slips, underglaze and glaze, firings: bisque and glaze, refreshments: tea, coffee and yummy cake, a delicious cold lunch and a glass of wine, are all included in the price. All you need to do is turn up with an apron and a large dollop of enthusiasm!
