Primary attention is placed on alignment, balance, and strength. Quality of movement is emphasized. Continued development of musicality, flexibility, and expressiveness. Work with one hand at the barre includes many new technical elements. New steps and combinations for center work are learned while work on fundamental steps such as waltz and chainé continues. Emphasis on a variety of jumps. Pirouette and turn technique is developed and refined. Students sufficiently prepared to meet the requirements of technique and strength may begin pointe work upon the teacher’s recommendation at this level.
