Classic Film: "The Stranger"

(1946, 95 minutes, Black and White) Directed by Orson Welles 

Directed by and starring Orson Welles, this Academy Award-nominated film tells the story of Franz Kindler, a Nazi war criminal who has fled to Connecticut and assumed a new identity: Prof. Charles Rankin. While an Allied War Crimes Commission detective (the indomitable Edward G. Robinson) hunts down Kindler without knowing how he looks, Kindler’s new wife (Loretta Young) discovers the ugly truth about her husband’s evil past.

The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation present Mystery of Life free of charge and invite anyone in the community interested in classic films to attend. Free popcorn and refreshments are available in the lobby in the hour preceding the start of each movie. All films are shown in the Hagler Auditorium of the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center unless otherwise noted, and a speaker introduces each film. Parking is free and plentiful.
