Event description

Description

We are measuring trees in parks this fall and need your help!

During this training, you will learn how to identify trees commonly found in Washington D.C. and then we will practice our tree ID skills by inventorying trees at Howard University.

Tree inventories help us better understand what trees we have in Washington D.C. so we can analyze how they are helping us and the environment.

Did you know that different trees provide different benefits? That 50 ft sugar maple in your local park is storing almost 2000 lbs of carbon and capturing almost 100 cubic feet of storm water every year! That northern red oak in your backyard is host to 532 different caterpillar species!

This course is geared toward Citizen Foresters, Citizen Scientists, Project Organizers and anyone who is interested in building confidence in tree identification.

Classroom and field sessions will be combined.
