[CLASS] Intellectual Property Protection for Startups

Description
This class focuses on the basics of intellectual property (IP) and why IP is important. Many entrepreneurs don’t realize that by simply displaying their technology to the public or by selling even a single product, they could forever lose the chance to get a patent. And let’s not forget trademarks! A startup might invest heavily by putting their brand and logo on their products, only to find out that they are infringing someone else’s trademark. Both of this situations lead lost time, money, confusion and missed opportunities.
Some of the questions I’ll address: What is a patent? What is a trademark? When do I need them? How much do they cost? Are they worth it? Rather than instilling fear about the consequences…I can explain IP in a friendly and colloquial way. My goal is to help you, the entrepreneur, make educated choices about how best to secure your IP. We’ll also talk about tips on how to reduce or delay legal fees! The class may include a worksheet to be filled out beforehand.
