Event description

Description

Chop up a pair of old jeans and sew a fun and funky apron to use in the kitchen or garden. Denim makes stylish and sturdy aprons while also putting discarded jeans to good use.

Impact: Discarded jeans, scrap fabric and other sewing notions are diverted from the waste stream.

Participant Materials & Requirements: This class is for intermediate sewers. You must feel comfortable on a sewing machine to take this class. Please bring: a pair of jeans in any size (smaller jeans make smaller aprons. If you want the apron to fit you, choose a pair of jeans in your size or larger. For an apron to fit a child, choose a child’s pair of jeans); thread in whatever color you like; and sharp fabric scissors. Optional: for contrasting straps bring scrap fabric (about ½ yard or a fat quarter) for self-made bias tape OR 2 packages of double fold bias tape (single fold bias tape does not work); and embellishments of whatever kind such as patches, sequins, buttons, rick rack, fabric paint, or embroidery thread. Ragfinery has many of these supplies, including jeans. Shop early (and often) for best selection!

About the Instructor: Jennifer Willner is an avid sewist who has been making her own clothes since age 12. She pesters her daughters to make clothes for them too, and occasionally succeeds. Jennifer also alters prom gowns for frantic teenagers! Recently she started her own sewing business, Sewcially Conscious, and loves to do custom sewing and alterations.
