Event Information
Description
Los Angeles based Clairobscur Dance presents an intimate evening with legendary artists, from Poland and Israel. Featuring Clairobscur Artistic Director/Resident Choreographer Laurie Sefton’s 2018 work Supremacy Ride along with choreography by Karolina Kroczak performed by Zawirowania Dance Theatre plus a special appearance by International dance luminary Ido Tadmor.
Clairobscur Dance is know for dense and detailed movements, resident choreographer and Artistic Director Laurie Sefton’s award winning choreography is personal, emotion, and issue-based. Dance has the power to be an action of change. It acts as a lens, magnifying concepts through abstraction and physicality, translating intangible ideas into movement. Choreography decodes emotional content and viscerally affects those who experience it.
Supremacy Ride (2018)
Supremacy Ride was inspired by the gestures of the 45th president of the United States and other world leaders, past and present. The world premiere took place at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. This work was created to reflecting how the crushing invasion of politics in the media has put many in our society on an unintended trek
of daily frustration, fear, anger and hope. These gestures create a visceral tirade
full of meaning an innuendo. The physicality and possible meaning of these gestures, expanded, contracted, how they make the mover, and recipient of the movements feel and respond and reacted to. More than that, the work examines the struggle of coping with the new normal of daily upheaval and fear, and the journey of coping together.
Zawirowania Dance Theatre will present
Runway, choreographed by Karolina Kroczak is a collage of images, in which clichés from dancing shows are juxtaposed with archetypical images of male-female relations and elements of the performers’ private lives. The world premiere of the show took place at the San Luis Potosi Culture Centre in Mexico. A catwalk is not only a place where models present outfits, but also an excuse, a means to shed trouble by falsifying reality. In a relationship, we are making an attempt to prove our domination, force our partners to admire and respect us, make them become dependent on us. We give in to the tyranny of their expectations, but in fact, it is ourselves that we tame in the process.
Special guest appearance by Internationally acclaimed choreographer and dancer Ido Tadmor, who will perform a new work in progress.
This is an evening not to be missed!
