Event description

Description

Lena HorneSacramento Jazz Cooperative and Clairdee celebrate the groundbreaking singer, actress, and artist who personified glamour and became a catalyst for social justice. Horne, one of the most revered singers of the American Songbook, is especially renowned for her iconic version of the Harold Arlen/Ted Koehler torch song, Stormy Weather.

From Harlem to Hollywood to the March with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Clairdee’s loving tribute features historical facts and vibrant arrangements, with interpretations that are intimate and artistic, and not emulations of the legendary Ms. Horne.

“In the tradition of all great vocalists, Clairdee infuses each song with her own unique style while always remaining true to the song itself.” – Nancy Wilson

“Sassy solidly assured and in crowd pleasing form. A whole lot of interpretive brilliance” – Jazz Times

“Clairdee is the real thing. A beautiful voice, an exceptional artist.” – NPR
