Event description

Description

A workshop designed for boards, committees, church staff, newly nominated or elected leaders, and longtime volunteers who want to grow spiritually and advance the mission of their congregation.

PRESENTERS: Your New England Region UUA Staff Team

As a leader in your congregation, do you find yourself busy, perhaps even too busy with commitments that feel more like chores than the joyful expression of your faith? Do you worry about not having enough: volunteers, funding, members? Do you long to deepen or recapture your connection with: spirit, purpose, awe? Do you have bold ideas or a vision for change but feel unsure how to bring it about, or even how to express it in a way that will be welcomed?

If you answered yes to these questions, there's another way, available to all and yours to claim: the way and practices of spiritual leadership.

Spiritual leadership assumes that each of us has gifts the world needs us to deliver. Congregations can be places where we explore and reveal our gifts, and where we can make it collectively possible for all of our gifts to be identified and shared. Spiritual leadership transforms church work into spiritual growth and community building.

This program invites you into a deeper awareness of the nature and practices of spiritual leadership. Specifically, you will:

  • Explore spiritual leadership as distinguished from other forms of leadership

  • Identify how you and your team could apply spiritual leadership in carrying out mission

  • Consider how congregational culture could be vitalized by supporting everyone to discern and deliver their gifts for the greater good

  • Learn about and test a group practice of reflection and discernment in decision-making

  • Examine the practice of covenant as one way to encourage spiritual leadership in your congregation

  • Plan a faithful experiment in spiritual leadership

This program is designed for religious professionals and lay people to learn together. Because shifts in congregational practice require sustained group effort, you are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop with a team of five or more.

LOCATION: Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashua, NH (Directions)

REGISTRATION FEE:

  • $25 per person when you register 1-4 from your congregation
  • $15 per person when you register 5 or more from your congregation

While we know that not all individuals are in a position to pay these fees, since the learning is on behalf of the congregation, we assume that congregations will select and financially support participants who come. However, if these fees are prohibitive even to the congregation, please contact us at newengland@uua.org. We do not want cost to keep anyone away.

NOTE TO ALL ATTENDEES: Please bring your own bag lunch. Morning refreshments, drinks and afternoon snacks will be provided.

REGISTRATION CLOSES: Monday, May 7, or maximum capacity.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS:

  • If you or a teammate needs to cancel a registration before the event, please contact us as early as possible, by one week before the event at the latest, and a refund will be provided less a $5.00 administrative fee.
