About this event
Over two Thursday evenings in February, you will create a Railroad Spike Knife using traditional blacksmithing techniques.
In the first class (Feb 2, 5-9pm), we will cover the basics of blacksmithing, safety, use of equipment, and you will begin forging your railroad spike, flattening and shaping the blade, and twisting the handle. In the second class (Feb 16, 5-9pm), you will finalize your blade design and move to the grinder to finish metal removal. You will then bevel and quench (harden) your blade and lastly put an edge on it.
These classes are for civilians and limited to 6 people. Each attendee needs to register individually and must be at least 18 years old. Cost is $125.
War Horse Forge is the blacksmithing program of our nonprofit 19Hands Inc. We offer free hands-on programs to veterans, active duty military, first responders, and their supporters. Our civilian classes help fund classes for our heroes.
