Event Details

Poet Walt Whitman described the historic home of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery as the "noblest of Washington Buildings."  Back by popular demand, this tour, led by Charles Robertson,  American Art's Deputy Director Emeritus, reveals the many uses of the building during the Civil War.  Re-enactors portraying Walt Whitman, Clara Barton, A Union soldier, and President Abraham Lincoln will share their characters' stories.  Space is limited.

Meet in the Kogod Courtyard.
