Civil War Book Party
Friday, June 14, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Join Congressional Cemetery as we celebrate three local authors with a party and book signing at (and in!) our Public Vault. Cindy Janke, author of A Guide to Civil War Washington, D.C., and Jim Garrett and Richard Smyth, authors of The Lincoln Assassination: Where Are They Now?, will be available to sign books and chat about local history. Hear the authors speak about their books, and listen to period music performed by The Susquehanna Travellers. Attendees also have the chance to join a Civil War tour of the cemetery given by historian Steve Hammond. Libations and refreshments will also be included in the ticket price, and books will be available for sale throughout the event. Don't miss out on this chance to meet local authors and enjoy the unique atmosphere of a history book party in a cemetery!
When & Where
Historic Congressional Cemetery
Congressional Cemetery is a 35 acre historic burial ground located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Initially known as the Washington Parish Burial Ground, Congressional became the first truly national burial ground as Congress bought sites, buried noted civil servants, and funded the infrastructure. Among the 55,000 burials at Congressional are scores of noteworthy citizens who left their mark on the city and the nation. Find out more about their amazing stories by exploring the Cemetery's web site at www.congressionalcemetery.org or joining a free Saturday tour April through October at 11:00 AM. The Association for the Preservation of Historic Congressional Cemetery is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
