Event description

Description

“Civil Rights/Civil Wrongs” is the umbrella title for three One-Act fictional plays set in 1960s Memphis. The production features the original works of Ruby O’Gray and the late Dottie Royston.

Although the struggle for civil rights was and is yet a painful subject, the ladies used comedy in their writing to broach the pain of the era. WTFM and MBAA’s collaboration not only will enlighten the historic period to young audiences, but will also stir recollections of many now seniors, who lived through that fateful era. Both audiences will have an opportunity to see one of the plays, “The Liberal: Ms. Price” on January 12 and 15, followed by a brief Q & A session.

Is There Room for One More? A mother and her daugther on the day of Dr. King's death.

The Liberal Mrs. Price A lonely elderly woman and her maid after the death of Dr. King.

Gathering The Fold An attorney is asked to defend the son of his maid during the sanitation strike after he is arrested for looting.
