Join Civic Hall for our Member Showcase featuring presentations and project demos from those using and building technology for the public good. This quarterly series features current community members focusing on work that is building and/or utilizing technology for the public good.

Light refreshments will be provided throughout the night, and attendees will have the opportunity to engage with presenters during both our Q&A session and our networking portion of the evening.

PRESENTERS

1. Talmage Cooley - Democracy.com
The Democracy.com platform is powered by the largest database of citizen engagement
opportunities ever created — over 5 million in the US at any given moment. You tell us what
you care about, we tell you all the available engagement options and walk you through the
action of your choice.

2. Tracy Dennis-Tiwary - Personal Zen
Our mission/work we do is: translate cutting-edge science into engaging, effective digital
therapeutics to bridge the gap between mental health needs and solutions, with an initial focus
on reducing stress and anxiety.

3. Scott Rasmussen - NYC Mesh
Our mission/work we do is: Our non-profit mission is to create an open, resilient, neutral network
that brings affordable internet to underserved areas in New York City. To accomplish this we
use a combination of wireless mesh technologies, ethernet and fiber.

4. Jason Van Anden - Quadrant 2
Our mission/work we do is: Quadrant 2 has developed some of the best known mobile
applications for social good including I'm Getting Arrested for OWS, Mobile Justice for the ACLU
and WorkIt for OurWalmart. We specialize in creating innovate technology to help the world
become a kinder, fairer and better place.

5. Ji Qi - DASH
DASH maps and analyzes the spatial and temporal changes in migration patterns, seasonal
variability, and urban and agricultural development using data from government statistics, Earth
Observation satellites, and mobile and GPS- enabled systems. DASH seeks to map the current
zones of conflicts and develop a near real-time forecasting model to identify potential areas of
violent conflict through the application of big data analytics and Artificial Intelligence.

6. Julie Martin Tumasz - Design Xchange
We match volunteer designers with social enterprises in developing countries to build capacity
in digital media marketing and visual storytelling. Designers based in New York City will
participate in an overseas design experience emphasizing on collaborative workshops and
cultural exchanges with the local NGO and in-country designers. By bridging the digital divide,
this new network of designers will provide social enterprises the means to effectively promote
their mission to their local and international audiences.We are a team of graduate student social

entrepreneurs at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University that have
been selected as a semi-finalist for the Dean's Public Policy Challenge Semi-Finalist. Looking
forward to the showcase! (formerly known as Design Across Borders)

7. Julio Corredor - Zooterra
Zooterra is a patent-pending product that gives users a direct, transparent and fun way to help
protect wildlife and natural habitats. Our mission is to democratize engagement and action
around habitat and wildlife conservation so that everyone has a stake in nature.
