About this Event

The City of Smithville Comprehensive Planning process has now been launched and four task forces have been set up for stakeholders to work on each of the strategic pillars: Please select the Task Force that you would like to sign up for.

Recreation and Connectivity Task Force

Monday, March 23: 2:00pm-4:00pm

Mid-Continent Library, Smithville

This Task Force will work on integrating the strategic pillar ‘enhanced recreation and connectivity’ into the Comprehensive Planning process. Specific areas of focus will include creating a recreation and connectivity masterplan, studying community desires for recreation facilities, building recreation as an economic driver in the community, and building regional trail connectivity.

Small-town Feel and Sense of Community Task Force

Tuesday, March 24: 2:00pm-4:00pm

Mid-Continent Library, Smithville

This Task Force will work on integrating the strategic pillar ‘retention of small-town feel and sense of community’ into the Comprehensive Planning process. Specific areas of focus will include creating ’Smithville Community Oasis’ areas, utilizing unique signage and promotion, applying design that fosters a small-town feel and embracing environmental practices.

Business and Economic Development Task Force

Tuesday, March 24: 6:00pm–8:00pm

City Hall, Smithville

This Task Force will work on integrating the strategic pillar ’strengthen business and economic development’ into the Comprehensive Planning process. Specific areas of focus will include technology and bioscience companies, leveraging off airport redevelopment, pursuing tourism related business potential, and creating dedicated industrial zones.

Housing and Neighborhood Options Task Force

Wednesday, March 25: 2:00pm-4:00pm

Mid-Continent Library, Smithville

This Task Force will work on integrating the strategic pillar ‘diverse housing and neighborhood options’ into the Comprehensive Planning process. Specific areas of focus will include finding ways to facilitate the availability of more diverse housing options, defining and developing neighborhood nodes, and preserving green space and a rural feel for the community.
