Event description

Description

The first City of San Diego Climate Impacts training is coming up soon - we hope to see you there!

The City of San Diego's Planning Department is embarking on a 3-year planning effort to prepare a City-wide climate adaptation and resiliency plan. They have partnered with the State Coastal Conservancy to hold a series of trainings that will 1) familiarize City staff with specific climate impacts and issues, 2) provide an opportunity for Departments to share how their infrastructure and programs may be affected, and 3) create a forum to brainstorm potential future strategies for adaptation and resiliency.

We invite you to be a part of our first training on coastal hazards, where we will provide an overview of sea level rise, flooding and erosion and discuss the current and foreseeable risks that the City faces in light of these impacts. Staff will have the opportunity to share their perspective and participate in brainstorming potential adaptation strategies.

What are the benefits of participating?

  • Learn about the coastal hazards that will likely impact your day-to-day work.
  • Understand the 3-year adaptation and resiliency planning process and provide your input.
  • Share your perspective and expertise on coastal hazards, both current and imminent, and on feasible adaptation strategies.
  • Develop partnerships with other City departments in order to coordinate against the threat of coastal hazards.

Why are you invited and who else will be in attendance?

You have been identified as a leader and practitioner in the City of San Diego whose infrastructure and programs would be impacted by coastal hazards such as sea level rise, flooding, and erosion. We hope to have strong representation of all relevant City of San Diego departments whose day-to-day work would be affected by coastal hazards. If there are others you believe would be integral to this conversation, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Join us on November 6, 2017 from 9:00am to 12:00pm to help increase resilience in the City of San Diego.

Please RSVP by November 2, 2017 and feel free to contact Elizabeth.Gagneron@scc.ca.gov if you have any questions.

Thank you!
