Less Talk More Action.

Consider it pure joy...whenever you face trials...because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

James 1:2-4

BIO: From her senate page

I'm a life-long Milwaukee resident and a proud graduate of Rufus King High School and UW-Milwaukee. After getting my law degree at SIU-Carbondale, I came back home to work in the Public Defender's Office and start my own law firm, Taylor and Associates.

Besides practicing law, I ran a number of businesses and invested in real estate around the downtown Milwaukee area. My success in those fields has allowed me to give back to the community that's meant so much to me. I've participated in service projects, served on dozens of boards, run free monthly legal clinics, and spoken to young people about the importance of education.

My desire to serve eventually led me to run for elected office. In April of 2003, I won a special election to represent Wisconsin's 18th Assembly District. Then, in November of 2004, I was elected to the 4th Wisconsin Senate District, becoming only the second African American woman to serve in that body.

I've spent my time in the Legislature fighting for quality education, standing up for civil rights, and focusing attention on women's health issues. As a member of the Joint Committee on Finance, I've helped bring millions of dollars to Milwaukee for things like schools, public safety, and transit. And as Chair of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Corrections, and Housing, I've made access to justice a priority for the entire Senate.

I've also used my role in the Legislature to reach out to children and young adults struggling with the same choices I faced growing up in Milwaukee. I've visited dozens of schools, youth programs, and churches to emphasize the importance of staying in school, pursuing dreams, and making responsible decisions.

When I'm not at work in the Senate, I love spending time with my son, Isaiah, who means the world to me. My biggest goal in life is to make sure that he gets as much from growing up in Milwaukee as I did.
