Event Details

Join trained citizen scientists as they carefully look for and count Bay checkerspot butterflies as part of the reintroduction effort at Edgewood County Park and Natural Preserve. You will enjoy brilliant displays of wildflowers as you walk through butterfly habitat that is normally off-limits to the public.

This walk covers approximately 3 miles of moderately sloping terrain. You will be off-trail on uneven ground that may be wet or muddy. Bring water, a hat, sturdy shoes, and sunscreen. In order to prevent introducing non-native plant species to this sensitive area, your shoes should be clean of soil and seeds. This walk is geared to adults, but capable, attentive children 10 years and older are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Heavy rain cancels.

Meet at the Clarkia Trailhead on Canada Road. If you are coming along I-280, exit at Edgewood Road and head west toward the mountains. Turn left at Canada Road and continue under the freeway overpass. Park on the dirt strip on the freeway side of Canada Road just south of the I-280 onramp.

Please visit Friends of Edgewood for information about other events at Edgewood County Park and Natural Preserve.
