Cities: Re-thinking Traffic with the Iceberg Model - Workshop
As part of systems innovation for cities event series, this event will examine the traffic congestion in megacities through the systems innovation lens. In this event hosted by the Si Istanbul Hub, we will use iceberg model and work on the iceberg canvas to unpack the traffic problem in megacities on its different levels.
What is the iceberg model?
The iceberg model is a model used in systems thinking to illustrate the various levels of abstraction. Just like with an iceberg, a large percentage of what is going on in our world is hidden from view and the Iceberg Model tries to make this explicit by depicting it as a series of layers that sit beneath the everyday observable phenomena.
The topic
Traffic is a profound and widespread problem impacting almost every aspect of life in megacities. Traffic problem is a systemic issue resting on interlinked factors such as distorted urbanisation, the increase in population, and the increase in the number of vehicles. In this workshop, we will use the traffic problem as an example to understand the different levels of an issue and how to find and address high leverage points.
