Course Over View:

- Experienced, CISCO-certified instructor led class (In Person)

- Classes are held on every Saturday over a 12 week period, 4 hours (9am - 1pm) per day ( Course starts on Oct. 08 , 2016 )

- Opportunity to have hands-on experience with real CISCO routers and switches

- Follows the official CISCO curriculum

- Multiple labs to practice theories taught in the course

- Simulated exam questions at the end of the course, followed by an in-depth review of individual questions.
This will prepare the students for the real certification test.

Week 1 :

- Fundamentals of Networking,

- Understanding of TCP/IP networking model,

- Layers in OSI model, Comparison of OSI model and TCP/IP model,

- Concept of encapsulation of data, Definitions of data Segment, Packet and Frame ,

- Understanding of LAN and Ethernet Data Link Layer,

- UTP cabling, Straight-Through, Cross over and Roll over cabling types,

- Understanding of IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Header and Trailer Fields,

- MAC address,

- Wide area Network, CSU/DSU , DCE and DTE,

- WAN protocols ( HDLC etc.. )

Week 2:

- Understanding of IP addressing,

- IP address classes A, B, C , D and E ,

- IP sub netting,

- IP routing logic and Routing Protocols,

- Domain Name System (DNS ), Address Resolution Protocol ( ARP) , Transport Layer protocols ( TCP,

UPD )

- Socket and Port Numbers, Establishment and Termination of TCP connection,

- Switches, Command Line Interface, Switch console access and remote access ( Telnet , SSH),

- Different CLI modes ( User, Privileged, Global Config ), Configuration files

Week 3:

- Data Frame forwarding mechanism in Switches,

- MAC address table, Spanning Tree protocol,

- Securing the access to the Switch , Enabling secure remote IP access to the switch,

- Configuration of Switch interfaces ( Speed, Simplex, Duplex),

- Switch port security ( Access, Trunk ) ,

- Port security violation actions

Week 4:

- Understanding of Collision and Broad casting domains,

- Three-Tier and Two-Tier design,

- Different topologies ( Star, Full Mesh etc.. ) ,

- Different types of Ethernet Standards, Wireless LAN,

- Concepts of VLANS, Multi Switch VLAN and Trunking,

- VLAN Trunking protocols ( 802.1Q , ISL ), Router-on-a-Stick, Configuration of VLANS,

- Voice VLAN concepts, Troubleshooting LAN issues

Week 5:

- Concept of IP sub netting,

- Calculation of Number of Sub nets and Number of Hosts per Sub net,

- Subnet Mask,

- Public IP network, Private IP Address,

- Connected Routes, Static Routes and Dynamic Routes,

- IP Routing Table

- Features of RIP V1 and RIP V2 Distance Vector Routing protocols,

- Concepts of Split Horizon, Route Poisoning

- Implementation of DHCP server role,

- IP helper-Address,

- DHCP Relay Agent,

- Proper selection of subnet masks to fit the network requirements,

- Concept of Variable Length Subnet Mask (VLSM),

- Ping and Traceroute commands,

- Use of Telnet and SSH

- Troubleshooting of IPv4 routing,

- Over lapping VLSM ,

- Understanding of Standard and Extended IPv4 Access Control List,

- Practice questions for the Certification Exam

About the instructor:

Mr. Kalinga Amarasinghe ( Mr. A ) has 16 years of experience in the IT field. He received his Masters in Computer Science from UNC Charlotte. After graduating, he worked at IBM Global Services for 10 years as a System Administrator. He currently works for the Community College System in South Carolina as a full-time instructor, teaching the CISCO curriculum. He is a CISCO certified instructor and is highly experienced in training students to pass the CISCO certification exam.
