What is the RiverSticks?

The River Sticks is the name used for co-op CILAX teams. The purpose is to help the various CILAX leagues provide additional playing opportunities as a group, to field teams for all players outside of the regular season, or provide alternate growth opportunities during season. The summer RiverSticks is open to anyone who has played on a CILAX team, and hopes to add other opportunities as the number of players in the Central Illinois area grows.

Why these tournaments?

The Washington, Dunlap and Bloomington leagues chose these tournaments for the River Sticks based on dates available for a variety of competitive offerings, with at least one tournament at all levels. These dates also allow the 12U/14U boys to participate in the Titans summer league without conflict of tournament dates.

Who is the coach?

Your coach will be one of the CILAX team coaches from any of the leagues, depending on who would like to volunteer to lead the group. Because we are having coaches volunteer to lead the team, we can keep the costs to the minimum to cover the practice field rental, the coach's travel cost, and the tournament entry fee. We will know who the coach will be closer to the practice week. When coaches are know, they will be listed under the ticket description. For the girls, lead coaches will preferentially be former female players and current coaches, such as Shea Olehy (Peoria Notre Dame HS - coaching May 25 and June 22/23).

When are the practices?

Practices will take place at one of the club fields, depending on availability. Times will be similar to regular season practices (early evening). We will not know the exact days until closer to the tournament, but please leave the week before the event fairly free for 2-3 evening practices.

Who will be on my team?

Your teammates can come from any CILAX league. Registrations are taken in the order they are received, and anyone from a CILAX team can join. The purpose of this is to encourage all players in the area to come together outside of the spring competitions because they enjoy playing. There are no other selection criteria. Although all the leagues want to promote competitive play, summer is a difficult time to guarantee player numbers. Therefore, the opportunity is open to anyone who is available to play. Also, since every team needs a goalie, any goalie who played on a league will not pay a registration fee, and only needs a River Sticks jersey. A maximum of 2 goalies would be needed for a team.

How many players will be on a team?

The number of players depends on the U-Level and the tournament. The team size has been set (please see each tournament registration) to balance play time and competiveness for all players. Once the teams have been filled, a second team will be opened if a sufficient number of players are on the waitlist, and if a 2nd coach wants to lead the team.

What play level will the team register for?

Each tournament typically has 2-3 play levels (i.e. A, B, C or Gold, Silver, Bronze). Even with a group of experienced players, the River Sticks teams will register at the C level. In the case where there are enough players for 2 teams at one U-level, the coaches and organizers will decide together how to divide players according to play level where various play levels are available. Ultimate assignments will be made by the organizers with the help of coaches. Players will register at the same U-level as they did in the spring.

What is the uniform?

During your registration you will purchase a River Sticks jersey. If you have already played in a River Sticks event from last year or this, you do not have to purchase a new one. We recommend wearing black shorts with the jersey to complete the uniform.

Why do I need a US Lacrosse number?

All players and coaches must be US Lacrosse members for insurance purposes. Because this co-op does not belong to a single league or program, the players and coaches can only be insured under the US Lacrosse umbrella if all members have a membership. This number is good for one year. To join or retrieve your membership number, please go to USLacrosse.com.

Are there any extra costs?

For the 1-day tournaments, extra personal costs and any travel-associated costs are not included in the registration. For the 2-day Windy City LAX Bash tournament, an overnight may be necessary. Some parents choose to drive up and back to tournaments without staying the night. For those who choose to stay over, the tournament organizer requires hotel arrangements to be made through their event management service. A block of 15 rooms has been held, and information for booking is available after registration. In cases where there are no available rooms, exceptions might be made. It is the responsibility of every player to arrive at the game venue in time for the coach's warmup before the game time.

What is the refund and transfer policy?

You may cancel your registration until registration closes (different dates for each tournament). After that date, we will pay the tournament fees and cannot refund your registration. If you want to transfer to another tournament, you may do so until the earlier tournament registration deadline. You may not transfer to a different tournament after the registration closes. There is no fee to transfer, but you will be charged/refunded the difference in price. Service fees cannot be refunded. Jersey costs will also be refunded if desired, or you can keep them for future tournaments.

What happens if there aren't enough players to make a team?

For 12U and 14U team, a minimum of 16 players is needed for boys and girls. A 10U and 8U team can be formed with as little as 12 or 8 players respectively. In the unfortunate event that there are not enough players to form a team by the registration closing date, you will be notified and given the option to transfer your registration to another tournament, or refunded your registration costs.

Do I have to sign a waiver?

Once the team is registered for the tournament, each player email will receive a waiver from the tournament organizer.

How do I communicate with my team?

Once registration closes and a team is complete, you will receive and email to join TeamSnap. This will be the means that your coach and team members will communicate. Because this is a volunteer effort on the part of the organizers and goaches, there will need to ba a voluntary Team Parent to support the coach, be the main contact for the team, and help lead any organizational needs.
