CIC Fellow Theresa Brown: Meet the Author Eevent
Date and time
Join us as Visiting CIC Fellow Theresa Brown, Ph.D., RN, author and nurse, Zooms into GCU for a Meet the Author event.
About this event
Before pursing her career in nursing, Dr. Brown was a professor of English. This appreciation for narrative, communication, and close reading is reflected in both the care she delivers as a clinical nurse in Pittsburgh and the writing she publishes as a frequent contributor to the New York Times, CNN.com, The American Journal of Nursing, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Dr. Brown’s first book, Critical Care: A New Nurse Faces Death, Life, and Everything in Between, has been adopted as a textbook in nursing schools across the country. While Critical Care established community for nurses, The Shift: One Nurse, Twelve Hours, Four Patients’ Lives earned its place on the New York Times bestseller list and made visible the lived experience of nurses. This authentic representation of nursing in the USA exposes both the value of the occupation and the systemic pressures that undermine and stress it.
Theresa Brown, Ph.D., RN, is author of the forthcoming Healing: When a Nurse Becomes a Patient. She also wrote the New York Times bestseller The Shift: One Nurse, Twelve Hours, Four Patients’ Lives. The Shift portrays one real shift worked by a hospital nurse, showing a day-in-the-life of an RN, but also all the life in one day in the hospital.
