Event description

Description

Chronic pain is a major problem among Veterans: approximately 50% of Veterans in primary care and 80% of returning OEF/OIF Veterans live with persistent pain. The dangers of opioid pain medications are receiving increased attention, and generating interest in non-pharmacological approaches to managing pain. How can we help our clients find relief and live well in the face of pain? In this 6-hour training, participants will learn the fundamentals of the biopsychosocial approach to pain management, including cognitive-behavioral self-management strategies individuals can use to manage persistent pain. Participants will also learn the basics of two evidence-based techniques used for pain management: clinical self-hypnosis and mindfulness. Training participants will have the opportunity to learn in a variety of ways including lecture, demonstrations, discussions, and experiential learning activities designed to give them a richer understanding of how to apply psychosocial approaches to pain management.
