Description

Join International Opera Star Alessandra Marc and The UNMC Choir, The Maytime Symphonette, and Pianist Alex Chan under the direction of Maestro Darryl Winston in a program of joyful and inspirational holiday music with lessons and carols. Ms. Marc, hailed by the Washington Post as "the most beautiful voice in the world," has performed in every major opera house in the world. She has been the featured artist in more than 40 recordings.

Free parking will be available behind the Scottish Rite Temple, located diagonally from the church. To access parking, please use the service way on 16th Street between the Chastleton and the Scottish Rite Temple. The church/venue is at the intersection of 16th and S Streets, located midway between the Dupont Circle and U Street Metro Stations. The S2 and S4 Buses stop in front of the church’s door.

A freewill offering will be collected to defray the cost of presenting this event to the community.

Alessandra Marc, one of the leading singers in the world of opera, is that rare artist at home in many musical settings. After her recital debut in Paris, newspaper Le Figaro stated “Une etoile est Nee,” (A Star is Born). Ms. Marc has sung major roles in virtually all the world's leading opera houses, including London's Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera. Another critic wrote that her voice [is] “an instrument of unsurpassed beauty and impact.” Andrew Porter, then the music critic of The New Yorker, hailed her vocal instrument as “perhaps the richest, fullest, most beautiful big soprano voice around.” These are the kind of reviews most singers can only dream of, but Alessandra Marc doesn't rest on her laurels. She continues to extend her repertoire encompassing virtually all the great roles for the dramatic soprano. She is particularly noted for her Sieglinde in Wagner's Die Walküre, and title roles in Aida and Turandot, she's no stranger to the concert stage. From Beethoven's 9th Symphony to Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, Ms. Marc shows both her extraordinary depth and range. Nor does she shy away from the non-classical repertoire; she is at home with the songs of Harold Arlen, George Gershwin and Rodgers & Hammerstein, to say nothing of the songs of rockers Evanescence and the rap music pioneers Russell and Danny Simmons. Gospel songs and spirituals as well as German and French cabaret songs round out her repertoire. She imbues everything she sings with extraordinary beauty and grace.
