Through music, narration and scripture, Of the Father's Love Begotten by Gilbert Martin, follows the age-old journey to Bethlehem. It begins with God’s people rejoicing in hope as they heard the Old Testament prophets foretell the Messiah’s birth. The journey continues in the announcement to Mary that she would give birth to God’s Son. The celebration in Bethlehem includes shepherds, angels, wise men, and the Holy Family.
The radiance, joy, and majesty of the Christmas season is all captured here in this remarkable work. Familiar and favorite texts are redressed in colorful and varied musical styles, typical of this composer, and the sensitive narration of Stephen Andrews creates a magical mood. Along with a haunting setting of the cantata's title, there are fresh and skillful arrangements of Messiah Comes, Emmanuel!, What Child Is This?, Angels We Have Heard On High, and two breathtaking original compositions entitled One Holy Night and Manger Lullaby. This vibrant work is sure to be the highlight of the season. The cantata will be directed by Erin Brothers and will be accompanied on the piano by Russell Fry. In addition to members of the Dixon United Methodist Church choir, singers from Dixon and the Sacramento area will join the chorus.
The presentation of the cantata will include performances by the church’s Handbell Choir and Kids Choir.
