Join us at York Medical Society for this ecumenical gathering for a day of conversation, reflection and discussion addressing:

Advance decisions (‘Living Wills’) – making end of life decisions for yourself

Providing and withdrawing medical treatment – making decisions for those who have lost the ability to decide for themselves

Assisted dying – legal, social and theological perspectives

Speakers include: Revd Canon Dr Christopher Collingwood (Chancellor, York Minster), Professor Jenny Kitzinger (Coma and Disorders of Consciousness Research Centre), Dr Ben Wood (University of Chester), Revd David Williamson (Spiritual Care Lead, St Leonard's Hospice), Professor Sue Wilkinson and Professor Celia Kitzinger (Advance Decision Assistance), Dr Esther McIntosh (Director of Theology and Religious Studies, York St John University), Dr Poppy Nash (University of York), Julie Latchem (co-ordinator of Christian perspectives project, Cardiff University).

Attendees will have opportunities to ask questions, engage in debate and think about their own faith throughout the day.


REGISTRATION IS FREE (IF BOOKED BEFORE JUNE 25th) OR £5 ON THE DOOR


Lunch – Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day. You will be invited to offer a donation to help cover costs.

This event is being run in partnership with ‘Christian Perspectives on Death and Dying’ - an ecumenical initiative led by academics at Cardiff University aimed at supporting Christians to engage with current debates surrounding death and dying. The main conference will be held in the lecture theatre.
