Event description
Chris Maxwell celebrates the release of his new album "New Store No. 2" with a performance at the Colony in Woodstock NY

About this Event

Chris Maxwell’s debut album, Arkansas Summer, was declared one of the "best albums of the year" in Paste Magazine by Ron Hart. John Burdick in the Almanac Weekly described it as “…masterful Baroque Americana,” On February 29th, Maxwell celebrates the release of his second album, New Store No. 2, with a little help from his friends at the Colony and an amazing band which includes Jeff Lipstein, Manuel Quintana, Sarah Perrotta, Mark Lerner, Zach Djanikian, Jay Collins and many more.

Chris made his name playing perhaps the furthest thing from wistful Americana — in the ’90s, he made catchy, jagged junkyard rock with the legendary New York band Skeleton Key. Before that, he was the principal songwriter and clever guitarist of Little Rock, Arkansas’ first band to be signed to a major label, the Gunbunnies, whose Southern Gothic jangle the L.A. Times characterized “…as if the Beatles met Faulkner on E Street."

These days, Maxwell works out of his new Goat House Studio in Woodstock, where he composes and records music for hit TV shows like Bob's Burgers and Inside Amy Schumer, as well as producing and writing music for other artists (They Might Be Giants, Iggy Pop, Yoko Ono, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) as part of the celebrated production team The Elegant Too.

---------------

With 9 albums under their belt, many international tours and collaborations and film/TV placements, The Shivers (Sonny Santos) have just released their latest album, I'm On Your Side on Big Deep Records. The first single, "swear 2 g-d" is a collaboration with UK Folk singer Billie Marten.

I'm On Your Side features Matt Ingram and Nick Pini from Laura Marling’s band on drums and bass and Steve Pringle from Michael Kiwanuka’s band on keys, as well as Aynsley Powell (St. Vincent, Weyes Blood) on drums and Ari Folman-Cohen (Stephane Wrembel) on bass. The LP was recorded by Andy Ramsay (Stereolab) in South Bermondsey, London’s Press Play Studios and mixed by Dan Cox (Bon Iver, Liane La Havas) at Urchin Studios, London. Mike Kutchman (Parquet Courts, Eddie Vedder) at Look to Listen Studios in Brooklyn mixed the majority of the album and recorded three of the songs.

Santos grew up between London and New York with a British father and an American mother and sees his music as the captured memories of a man always caught in between, trying to stay sane and find stability in a transient life, never quite fitting in.
