Event description

Even Superheroes need a little help now and then.

Chris Bertish will have spent the last 90 days at sea stand up paddling from Morocco to Antigua through some of the most horrendous weather imaginable and all for charity.

The man has literally given everything he has physically, emotionally and financially to help those that need it most.

Chris now needs our help to raise funds to cover additional operational costs as he nears the finish line.

Anyone that donates at the $100 level will get a personal Social Media thank you.

Contributors at the $500 level will get a special thank you from Chris in the book about the Sup Crossing.

Donations at the $1,000 level will get a special thank you from Chris in the movie about the Sup Crossing.

Despite Chris' best effort, he was unable to secure the one last sponsor he needed to cover the operational costs of the project and he has used all of his personal funds because it was too late to turn back. Chris also incurred additional costs for the following reasons:

  • Supplier for his freeze dried meals files for bankruptcy and does not deliver meals. Chris had to purchase meals at a cost of $3,500.
  • Weather conditions in Morocco forced Chris to change starting points. The change was at a cost of $6,500 for accommodations, docking fees for the craft, etc.
  • All of the supplies shipped from South Africa to Morocco were detained in customs in Casablanca and Chris had to rent a truck, drive 8 hours, spent two days getting the supplies out of customs for a fee, required accommodations and fuel at a cost of $1,000.
  • Weather conditions forced Chris to change his landing point to Antigua. Additional costs for getting the craft out of the water and shipped back to UK, additional 5 days of travel and expenses for Chris and the small Sup team from South Africa, UK and US required to facilitate the conclusion estimated at $10,000.
  • Travel to NY, LA and SF for promotional media and to return home to South Africa estimated at $4,000.

Chris' goal is to raise R20M to set up an annuity to pay out for the next 25 years and:

  • Provide life-changing surgeries through Operation Smile;
  • Feed and educate thousands of children in conjunction with the Lunchbox Fund;
  • Build several schools in Africa with Signature of Hope Trust;
  • Educate, engage & inspire kids throughout the world about the ocean and the importance of conservation.
