Choosing By Advantages: Sound Collaborative Decisions in Projects

  • Explore the connection between Lean Design Methods.
  • Practice how to design a transparent and productive process for group decisions, which results in more innovation, more value for the client, less cost, and more trust among project team.

Paz Arroyo
Senior Coach

Paz Arroyo is a senior coach with Lean Project. She holds a PhD in civil and environmental engineering from University of California, Berkeley. She has expertise on both implementing and researching the Choosing By Advantages (CBA) decision-making system.
Paz’s passion is training and coaching teams to collaboratively deliver better projects for the short and long term. Paz has taught Lean construction, and has delivered several workshops internationally about CBA. She also has published several papers at the International Group for Lean Construction (IGLC) conference, and at peer reviewed journals. Currently, Paz is also an adjunct assistant professor in the school of engineering at Catholic University of Chile, where she leads research projects in topics related to collaborative multi-criteria decision-making methods, Lean project management, sustainability in construction projects, and language action.

David Long
Senior Coach, 
Lean Project Consulting – Berkeley CALIFORNIA
David Long has over 40 years of construction and coaching experience including residential, lab, biotech, and health care building. An early adopter of Lean construction principles and Choosing by Advantages (CBA), he has established Lean project teams up to several hundred people for projects and programs up to $2.5 billion USD. Currently a senior coach with Lean Project Consulting, David coaches project teams both domestically and internationally to successful Lean project outcomes and is uniquely qualified to advise capital project teams from the owner’s perspective. David has coached hundreds of people to proficiency in CBA and individuals and teams in the practical application of CBA on large capital projects.

This workshop is for individuals working at all levels of design and construction in the building industry as part of or in support of project teams. Participants will engage in a number of exercises designed to improve the understanding of a sound and collaborative decision-making process. Contact decisions@leanproject.com.
