Palisades Montessori is pleased to offer the community this free parent education event!
Choosing your child’s first school is both an exciting, and a daunting, prospect! The key to choosing the right preschool is going into the process prepared with a solid understanding of models of preschool education.
Join us for an evening of honest, thoughtful conversation about models of preschool education. Montessori? Play-based? Reggio Emilia? This is your chance to ask questions and learn about these preschool education models (and more!). Join us for a thoughtful "fireside chat" evening with early childhood experts.
Our panelists bring a collective 80+ years of educating young children:
Sandra Gaddy currently teaches an early childhood class at Lone Oak Montessori in Bethesda, Maryland. She taught at Apple Montessori in Bethesda for 32 years and was the school director for 15 of those years. In addition, she is a teacher trainer at Montgomery Montessori Institute in Rockville. Sandra enjoys sharing her experiences and knowledge of the Montessori philosophy and curriculum.
Kathleen Geier has been teaching for 30 years in two Play-Based Quaker programs. Her educational philosophy is to combine child-led emergent curriculum with proactive intentional curriculum, creating an environment that encourages risk-taking, mistake-making and fun. She guides our youngest citizens in experiences and conversations that will help them be the best people that they can be. She uses the Quaker practices and beliefs to guide this classroom journey. Kathleen also has a degree in fine art with a focus on painting, drawing and printmaking, which she uses in the classroom and in her life outside of school.
Jennifer Azzariti is an early childhood educator working both locally and nationally with schools inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. She is recognized as the first Studio Teacher in the United States at the Model Early Learning Center, and has worked closely with educators from Reggio Emilia here and in Italy for over twenty years. Jennifer has worked in long-term consulting relationships with St. John’s Preschool, MacDonald Montessori, and DC Public Schools, as well as programs across the country focusing particularly on the potential of the role of materials as languages for learning and expression. Jennifer is a North American Reggio Emilia Alliance (NAREA) board member, and the founder of DC Reggio Emilia Alliance, a study group for educators in the Washington, DC metro area.
