Event description

Description

With a delay in the publication of a regional strategy about preventing suicides in Northern Ireland due to the political situation, it has been a challenging time for families to remain meaningfully engaged in trying to see positive changes happen across the region. However, despite these challenges, there are many projects working successfully in new and innovative ways to help improve support for those with suicidal ideas, their families and others. The Forum would like this opportunity to share with anyone who has been touched by suicide, a few of these inspiring initiatives, encouraging hope for a better future for all our families across the region. There will be a variety of projects talking about their work, the opportunity to meet and network with them and other families and to enjoy a 2 course lunch together. Forum members will get the opportunity to meet together following lunch for a brief annual review.

Some of the projects being showcased:

Royal College of Arts: Suicide Prevention in Public Spaces, including Bridges.

Family Mediation NI: Support to keep families working together during estrangement or following an unexpected bereavement.

Young Mens' Support Project: Joint collaboration with the Education Authority & the Public Health Agency to support young men in crisis in new ways.

Groundworkni: Alternative ways to support men in developing resilience and emotional health both to prevent suicide & to provide support following bereavement.
