Event description

Description

This CHLI briefing will highlight the prevalence and cost of diabetes for the Hispanic/Latino community, as well as discuss the solutions to help diabetics stay healthier longer.

According to the CDC, Hispanics/Latinos are at a significantly higher risk for type 2 diabetes than non-Hispanic Caucasians and are twice as likely to die from the disease. The number of Hispanic/Latinos diagnosed with diabetes has soared in the past several years and increasingly more people remain at risk of developing the disease. Not only is this a health epidemic, but it also poses a serious economic issue. Diabetes costs the U.S. healthcare system, employers, and other payers hundreds of billions of dollars every year. Patients are struggling to manage their costs.
