Event description
Chinese involvement in seaports has drawn intense attention because of its potential economic, political, and security implications.

About this event

Chinese involvement in seaports around the world as investors, contractors, and operators, among other things, has drawn intense attention because of its potential implications for international trade patterns, natural resource flows, and the competitive position of Western and other firms involved in the maritime sector. Analysts also are concerned about the potential political implications of Chinese involvement in seaports given that seaports represent critical infrastructure, often are located near important sealines of communication or extant military facilities, and may give China influence over host countries or the technologies that are incorporated into seaport infrastructure. To shed light on these important issues, the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong Center for the Study of Multinational Corporations, a California-based non-profit think tank, has organized a 1-1/2 day event (on Saturday, December 11 and Sunday, December 12) that will dive into Chinese seaports in Europe and the Americas. At this event, which will take place at the Embassy Suites SF Airport Waterfront (Burlingame, California), experts from around the world will examine questions such as the exact nature of China’s involvement in ports in Brazil, Greece, Germany, Jamaica, and the United Kingdom, among others; the progress of Chinese seaports; the economic, social, and political ramifications of Chinese seaports, and China’s seaports policy.

The workshop registration fee includes workshop registration, lunch on Saturday, December 11, dinner on Saturday, December 11, and transportation to/from the workshop hotel to the Dec. 11 dinner location. The fee does not cover transportation to/from the event, any lodging expenses, workshop hotel parking costs (if any), and any other incidentals. The workshop organizer reserves the right to accept or reject all workshop registrations. Registration cancellations will be refunded in full if done 2 weeks before Dec. 11 and will be 50% refunded if done 7 days before Dec. 11. No refunds will be given after this period.

All speakers for this event have already been identified.

For more information about the workshop, please send an email to info@mnccenter.org or call 650-268-8330.
