Event description

Description

The Denver Arts & Venues Public Art Program is pleased to announce the unveiling of “Ascent,” an original musical composition by Kevin T. Padworski and commissioned by Denver Public Art, for the 10-bell chime of the City and County Building. “Ascent,” will temporarily replace the Westminster Chime that rings throughout the day on the hour and quarter hour.

The new chime “song” will be played on significant and special days for the City of Denver. Other bell towers in Denver, including the historic Daniels & Fisher Tower, University of Denver carillon and the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception have been encouraged to “chime in” with the celebration, by playing “Ascent” or ringing their bells.

The unveiling is free and open to the public and will happen on the steps of the City and County Building (1437 Bannock St.)

In addition to the unveiling ceremony and dedication, Denver Arts & Venues will hold a special musical event – Chime On, Denver! – at McNichols Civic Center Building (144 W. Colfax Ave.). The event will feature the Perry Weissman 3, Greg Tanner Harris, and Ksxaan – Sum.

The musical acts will interpret “Ascent,” the new chime, in their own unique way, and perform a 20-minute set of their own music. Composer Kevin T. Padworski will hold a brief talk on composing for bells. This event is free and open to the public but an RSVP is requested.
