About this event

Understand the Golden State through the ghosts of its past with a night of haunting and curious tales from forgotten corners of California history.
As Halloween approaches, KQED’s Carly Severn hosts a company of journalists and community storytellers to recount macabre and murderous lore, detail the supposed visitations of local specters at sites of historic injustices, and reframe familiar legends and unsolved crimes. Through true-life stories and reporting, conversation, and audience interaction, this evening will unsettle California’s foundational myths to reveal lingering tragic cultural wounds, which—although they may never be laid to rest—deserve to be redressed and their lessons preserved with care.
Featuring:
- Carly Severn (KQED) on the Winchester Mystery House
- Ying Liu (The Haunted Bay) on China Town's Great Star Theater Haunting
- Glynn Washington (Snap Judgment's Spooked) on the School Marm of Los Gatos
- Kevin Fagan (San Francisco Chronicle) on the Forgotten Murders of The Doodler
- Lina Blanco (KQED) on the Shifting Forms of La Llorona
- Rae Alexandra (KQED) on The Haunted House on Lombard Street that Left A Trail of Tragedy
