Event description
Dance and Music Celebration of “Charlie Brown Christmas” Soundtrack has Become a New Twin Cities Holiday Tradition

About this Event

As the weather chills, we chill into original choreography and movement improvisations set to the groovy jazz tunes of Vince Guaraldi’s playful and nostalgic “Charlie Brown Christmas” soundtrack, played live by celebrated local musicians! After rave reviews and the biggest show audiences Rhythmically Speaking has seen, we are again teaming up with Amsterdam Bar & Hall to bring the Twin Cities public some Charlie Brown holiday joy once again. CHILL pairs a cast of seven dynamic local dancers and a live jazz quartet to bring the entire “Charlie Brown Christmas” soundtrack to life. Come enjoy a pint and a meal or snack while experiencing festive live music and dance this holiday season at St. Paul fixture the Amsterdam Bar & Hall.

As the birthplace of Peanuts creator Charles Schultz, Minnesota’s capital city of St. Paul is an ideal place for this quirky production that has become a holiday tradition for many Minnesota families. Composed by Vince Guaraldi, a West-Coast jazz musician little-known past his region before the release of the celebrated TV special he scored, the soundtrack music itself has carved an aural niche in American jazz music and popular culture. Yet, until CHILL, it had never been the feature of a production of original concert jazz dance choreography. CHILL offers a unique holiday outing option great for all yuletide revelry-seekers, including families: kids 12 and under are free!

The production is brought to life by a crew of excellent local artists, including dancers Clare Driscoll, Doug Hooker, Amy Jones, Kathleen Pender, John Surber, Crissy Tolson, and Liebhard herself, as well as light and technical design from Mike Grogan and music from an all-star local combo featuring Bob DeBoer on trumpet, Mike Hasleman on guitar, Danny Sigelman on Drums and Tony Watercott on bass. Presenting organization Rhythmically Speaking is the nonprofit that show choreographer and dancer Erinn Liebhard founded in 2009 to engage people in new work inspired by jazz and American social dance ideas. More information about the artists and tickets can be found at http://www.rhythmicallyspeakingdance.org/chill-2-0/.
