One out of five children have a diagnosable mental health need. Unfortunately, not every child who has a mental health need receives services. This could be due to not knowing what services are available; it could be because they have difficulty accessing services or because of a perceived stigma about receiving mental health care.

Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day is an annual event hosted by the Texas System of Care, the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health at The University of Texas at Austin, and Texas Health and Human Services Commission, along with many local community and government partners. This event promotes positive youth development, resiliency and recovery as well as transformation of mental health services for adolescents and their families. Most importantly, our goal is to serve our community by connecting them to the support resources they need.

Our messaging is geared to empower children to rise above mental health stigma. State agencies, mental health organizations and the local community will listen to testimonies from youth and families who have shown perseverance as well as hear from a prominent keynote speaker. The event will conclude with fun-filled family activities and a community resource fair at the Mueller Browning Hangar.
