In this class, your child will experience hands-on cooking, making traditional foods from India. Each student will try their hand at making Naan, a variety of delicious curries, and traditional side dishes using regional spices and fresh ingredients. In a fun and supportive environment, our young chefs will learn all about India, proper culinary techniques, health through nutrition, and sustainability. Best of all, getting our young chefs excited about cooking will make them brave and curious people. Who's ready to take a culinary JUMP? Ages 8-12 years old. Registration ends January 19th.
When: Saturday, January 21st from 10:00AM to 12:00 PM.
Where: JUMP Share Studio in the lobby.
What to Expect: Young chefs will take home all recipes from class. Parents are welcome to stay, but if you leave we ask that you sign your children in before leaving and sign them out when you pick them up. Thank you!
"I've been an elementary and middle school teacher for 21 years and a foodie all of my life. A few years ago I decided to combine my two passions--teaching children and cooking--and hatched the idea for the Children's Culinary Institute. After that, I took the big jump to dedicate myself to the intense study of all things food, from how food and culture intermingle, to sustainability, to all the skills a great cook would employ. I've traveled to many wonderful places, both far and near, have eaten from Nampa to Naples, as well as meeting many of the best food-minds in our region. I've been on an amazing food journey and I'm so excited to take the children of our community on their own journey to discover the joy of cooking."
What inspires you?
"I believe deeply in the growth mindset, that you can cultivate your abilities and improve your intelligence, learn perseverance and resilience, and that the view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life. As I travel, whether in Chamonix, France or the Willamette Valley, I'm inspired to learn everything I can about the food I eat and the people I meet. It's so much fun--yes, learning can be fun! What really inspires me, though, is when I can take what I've learned and teach it to someone else. To see my passion transferred into a young person, seeing them light up with a new interest or understanding, is so incredibly rewarding. I'm inspired to push myself to grow and my students to grow, encouraging us all toward great adventures and the best possible versions of ourselves."
