To create a greater desire among youngsters to read more - to have fun with reading - and to express themselves in writing

To provide parents and teachers with valuable strategies

To involve students in spirited performances by a uniquely talented storyteller

Our Storyteller --- Karen Rae Kraut

Karen Rae is an award-winning family performing artist, storyteller, variety entertainer, comedienne, singer, teaching artist and workshop presenter. Her storytelling shows include adaptatoins of world folktales, music, songs, movement and her own special brand of audience participation.

Did you know? When adults talk to kids, they use a vocabulary of 1,000 words, such as sit, run, bus, and school.

But by the end of 4th grade, children encounter 19,000 different words in print.These include more sophisticated terms like slither, flutter, navigate and microbe.

ONLY BY READING can children build the vocabulary necessary to keep up with school in the upper grades.

ADULTS: IDA members - $3; non-IDA members - $5

All CHILDREN ages 2 - 16 - $5

Under age 2 - no charge
