Description

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT LECTURE SERIES

For Educators & Child Mental Health Professionals

Psychological consultation to teachers has the potential to make a significant impact on the children we see and the entire classroom. Mental health consultation can provide much needed reflective opportunities for teachers, even those who may not initially see its value. Psychotherapists are in a unique role to help teachers understand the complex underlying dynamics of a child's disruptive and challenging behaviors. This presentation will describe a relationally-informed consultation approach to help you understand how to help teachers better use you and your understanding of your child clients.

Mr. Kordt-Thomas is a child and family psychotherapist who works with children of all ages and with a range of challenges. He specializes in working with children with developmental and learning disabilities, sensory-motor processing difficulties, and speech/language challenges. He provides infant-parent and child-parent psychotherapy, as well as individual child therapy. In this capacity, He works closely with teachers, speech and occupational therapists, and other professionals. He worked previously as an early childhood mental health consultant, facilitator of developmental-therapeutic playgroups, therapeutic shadow aide, and preschool and elementary school teacher.
