About this event

Chigiri-e (torn paper collage)

Join us on May 5th at 7 pm for bee-inspired art making led by Jan Whitted of Creative Adventures.

Chigiri-e is the Japanese art form of making images with washi paper. We will be creating pictures of bees and flowers using lightweight unryu papers. These colorful handmade papers are translucent and contain strands of fibers from the mulberry bush. Learn how to tear the paper and layer it to make a beautiful 5” x 7” work of art. All materials will be provided.

You will also need: a well-lighted space and a flat surface to work on; a small cup of water, paper towels, a paper placemat to protect your work surface, small scissors, and optional tweezers. Also bring pictures of bees and flowers for inspiration.

Jan Whitted teaches collage, decoupage, card making, and sand painting as part of her business, Creative Adventures (www.getcreativeadventurescom). For more than 20 years she operated Artbeat in East Arlington, a resource for creative supplies and activities for all ages.

Materials must be picked up at the Robbins Library after April 15th and before May 1st at the Circulation Desk. If your materials are not picked up we will assume that you do not wish to participate and your spot will be given to a person on the wait list.
