Stonewall Chico PRIDE Weekend 2017

Celebrate our diverse LGBTQIA+ community during Stonewall Alliance Center's Chico PRIDE Weekend taking place August 17 – August 20! This year's theme is "Let's Get Back to the Future" with intent to recognize the state of our current political climate and respond accordingly to the needs of our community in moving forward.

The Chico Pride Planning Committee is planning with the understanding that LGBTQ+ rights are human rights regardless of one’s race, ethnicity, disability, religion, immigration or documentation status, sexual identity, gender identity, gender expression, age, or economic status. Our goal is to reconnect with our rich history, while unifying our Chico community through local sponsors, vendors, entertainment, and a weekend of fun for everyone.



PRIDE Weekend will consist of the following series of events:

Thursday, August 17

"Queer Justice is Racial Justice:" Meeting (all ages) – Chico Peace & Justice Center (526 Broadway St) from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

This event kicks off Chico PRIDE Weekend with an opportunity to learn, brainstorm, and identify clear ways that LGBTQ+ community members and allies can effectively promote racial justice. "Queer Justice is Racial Justice" aims to center those of the LGBTQ+ community that are underrepresented, ignored, or erasedspecifically LGBTQ+ communities of color. The format of this event will most likely consist of spoken word performances, a facilitated discussion, and a chance to eat and mingle with one another. More details to be announced.

Friday, August 18

PRIDE Variety Show (ages 18+) – Women’s Club (592 E. 3rd St.) at 8 p.m. (Doors open at 7 p.m.)

Take a walk on the wild side with this Stonewall Chico Production! This night of entertainment and celebration will illuminate a series of fierce performances. There will be food available and a 21+ No-host bar. Tickets can be purchased in advance at a discount of $10 on the PRIDE website, and $15 tickets can be bought at the door. Seating is limited. First come, first served!

Teen PRIDE Dance (ages 13-18) – Trinity Methodist Church (285 E. 5th St.) from 7–10 p.m.

This year's theme is "Let's Get Back to the Future!" The Teen Dance will be a safe space for teens to connect, dance, and express themselves proudly. The dance will be hosting drag appearances, free food and Mocktail bar, a photo-booth, amongst other fun activities. The entrance is on Flume St. between 5th and 6th St. Admission is free. Saturday, August 19

PRIDE Festival (all ages) – Downtown City Plaza (W. 4th St.) from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

The PRIDE Festival will feature live bands, performances, and speakers. Vendors will be providing information about many LGBTQ+ resources offered in Chico. Food trucks, daytime bar at 1 p.m., and cold-brew coffee will be available for purchase along with other PRIDE merchandise. There will be plenty of fun, family-friendly activities and games along with dancing and music. If your organization is interested in hosting a festival booth, please visit the PRIDE website. $5 suggested donation.

Beer Garden & Live Entertainment (all ages) – Chico Women’s Club from 2–6 p.m.

After stopping by the Downtown Festival, don’t miss out on the Beer Garden & Live Entertainment where there will be food, live entertainment, and a no-host bar with non-alcoholic options. Live entertainment for this event is carefully selected, reaching talented and atmospheric performers both locally and regionally. $5 suggested donation.

18+ PRIDE Dance – Chico Women’s Club from 8 p.m.–12 a.m.

The 18+ PRIDE Dance will be nothing but music, lights, and amazing people to surround yourself with! There will be food, a photo-booth, live DJ, and a no-host bar. $5 suggested donation.

Sunday, August 20

PRIDE Brunch (all ages)Oak Grove in Lower Bidwell Park (South Park Drive) from 9–12 p.m.

End your weekend at the free PRIDE Brunch with delicious food and coffee. This is a family-friendly event with plenty of fun games for kids. Donations accepted.

The mission of Stonewall Chico is to strengthen and unite the LGBTQ+ community and its allies through promoting public events, social gatherings, support groups, counseling, and educational opportunities. Stonewall Chico PRIDE Weekend seeks to improve the lives of everyone by increasing visibility of LGBTQ+ identified people and making the North State community a safer place for all. All proceeds go to funding Stonewall’s mission of inclusion and empowerment.
