About this Event
What are the common health issues chickens face, and how can you treat them? Better yet, how can you keep your flock healthy? This class addresses chicken physiology, disease prevention and transmission, as well as chicken first aid.
You will receive a handout packet via email and learn by listening to a PowerPoint presentation.
NOTE: This class is geared to the Chicagoland area, including predators and climate.
Jennifer Murtoff of Home to Roost LLC provides compassionate, homespun consulting and emergency care for backyard chickens in the Chicagoland area. A farmer’s granddaughter, Jennifer’s passion for fowl developed as she acquired a number of kinds of birds in south central Pennsylvania. She offers information and resources on chicken care from chick to adult, and, while not a veterinarian, she provides emergency advice and troubleshooting, as well as avian veterinary referrals. Jennifer leads workshops on backyard chickens; does presentations for garden groups, schools, and other interested parties; and assists families with their own flocks. Her clients include Heartland Housing, the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, Sunrise Lake Outdoor Education Center, and the Oscar Mayer Magnet School. She has taught classes for Angelic Organics Learning Center, Chicago Botanic Garden, Garfield Park Conservatory, and Oak Park Conservatory and speaks at urban agriculture events.
